Welcome to the first issue of the FTC Newsletter. We hope this newsletter will help to keep our partners informed of the great things our students are learning and doing at Franklin Technology Center.
Director's Corner
Franklin Technology Center is excited about some of the new additions to various programs this school year. Now offering Diesel Training in addition to Automotive Training, we have a new Freightliner truck that will be a terrific training tool for our Diesel instructor along with other engine trainers and scan tools that were received from the EDA grant last year. Read more for the rest of the Director's Update.

Giving Back to the Community
Food Drive
As a part of SkillsUSA "Make a Difference" Week, FTC students will be competing with the office to collect food items to donate to Soul's Harbor in Joplin.

Ronald McDonald House
Mrs. Hensley's Plant Science and Greenhouse/Landscape class planted 2000 tulip bulbs at the Joplin Ronald McDonald House. Students learned the proper planting depth and which way to plant them along with getting to do some good old fashioned work!
College & Career Readiness
FTC has had several college and career readiness opportunities this quarter with a trip to the new Joplin Advanced Training & Technology Center for Manufacturing Day and several class speakers including:

  • Crowder College Dual Credit
  • Missouri Welding Institute
  • Tulsa Welding School
  • Universal Technical Institute
  • Spring River Christian Village
  • Missouri Conservation Department
  • Freeman Occumed

We are very thankful for all of our class speakers and opportunities provided to our students and staff at FTC.
Manufacturing Day
On October 6th, 150 students from Franklin Tech participated in Manufacturing Day at the new Joplin Advanced Technical Training Center.

New CTE Certificate
This year's incoming Freshman Class that will graduate in May 2021 will be the first that can earn the new Career and Technical Education Certificate when they complete their high school program. Follow the link below to learn more.
Teacher Receives Grant

SkillsUSA District Officers
SkillsUSA Southwest District Officers were selected for the 2017-18 year.

The FTC students that were selected are:

Historian- Miles Greenstreet
Parliamentarian- Carly Short
Joplin FFA
On Thursday, October 12th students of the Joplin FFA Chapter were invited to the Jasper County Farm Bureau's Annual Meeting. The students in attendance were Harris Allen, Sam Ingram, Katie Katzfey, and Brooke Parker, who attended the Farm Bureau Legislative Day in Jefferson City last year. They were presented American Flags from State Representative Mike Kelly, Certificates from Jasper County Farm Bureau, and photo albums from Barbra Hunter.

Development


As part of professional development, teachers toured the Heartland Pet Food Plant to learn more about the training and careers available. Teachers were able to see all facility operations, learn about the qualification and training needed to work at the plant, and discuss with the operators what additional training opportunities would help their employees at the plant. Thank you for the tour  Blue Buffalo  and Heartland Pet Food.
Student of the Quarter
Student's from each program were selected as student of the quarter for their program area. Students receiving the award also receive a certificate and gift certificate to the student store at FTC.
